Bio-Binder Innovative BioAsphalt

Bitumen, which has traditionally been used as a binder within asphalt mix, is a product of crude oil. Traditional Pavement Roads that are fossil-fuel based, is a disaster to the environment. Hot Mix Asphalt process produces high carbon emissions. Hence, there is a need to identify alternatives to bitumen—preferably more sustainable alternatives.

Do you know almost anything can be made out of Lignin ? Let it be Roads then !
Researchers have considered replacing bitumen with Lignin, a by-product of wood processing, as a suitable source of biomass.

Kraft Lignin BioBinder

Lignin is the second most abundant renewable biopolymer found in nature. The impressive properties of lignin, such as its high abundance, low weight, environmentally friendliness and its antioxidant, antimicrobial, and biodegradable nature, along with its CO2 neutrality and reinforcing capability, make it an ideal candidate for the development of novel polymer composite materials. Therefore, lignin has gained the attention of researchers as a raw material for the synthesis of value-added products of commercial importance. Kraft lignin is a highly pure containing higher amount of phenolic hydroxyl groups.

Making the Roads Green

Replacing Bitumen with Zero PAH environment friendly natural binder not only reduces emissions but also leads to a sustainable & Eco-friendly approach to improve carbon footprint in today’s world. This is inline with the Carbon Neutrality targets set by most countries.Lignin in asphalt is being already used for the construction of roads and they last in good condition.
